Saikumar Karyala, manager of the Genomics Research Laboratory at Virginia Bioinformatics Institute, received the most votes and took home the 2013 Golden Ladle award.
Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) held its fifth annual Chili Cook-off on October 16, from 12-1 p.m., in support of the annual Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign.
More than 35 people attended the event, each making a monetary donation to taste the chili and cast a vote for the first, second, and third place dishes.
The event raised $170, which has been donated to the following charities through the CVC: the American Cancer Society, Free Clinic of the New River Valley, Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program, and Montgomery County Humane Society.
Nine chili chefs disclosed the ingredients of their closely guarded chili recipes, if not the proportions, on recipe cards.
This year's Golden Ladle award winner is Saikumar Karyala, manager of the Genomics Research Laboratory at the institute.
